About the Tree Trail

Following the Trail

Quick Facts

The Tree Trail takes you to trees in the park which we think you might like to meet. Some of them are the typical trees of the English woodland, but others have travelled here from thousands of miles away. Big and small, evergreen or leafless in winter, they all have unique ways of growing and surviving, as well as myths and legends from ancient times.

If you do the whole walk it might take you an hour or more, but is almost entirely on good footpaths. To find some of the trees you will need to leave the footpath for a few moments. All the trees have small plaques to help you identify them. You can also use the What Three Words app to help you find them, available from Google Play and the App Store. Look for the What Three Words tag on each page, which begins with three marks like this ///.

The map shows the location of the trees. We have not suggested an order to visit them, and so you are welcome to find them in any order you like over several visits. For each tree we have included a short audio piece by our rangers talking about how it grows, how it is used, and how it is cared for.

If you take a particularly good photo of any of the trees, and are willing to share it, please send it to us for our pages. We can add images of the tree through the seasons, and detailed close up shots of the leaves and seeds.

Want to try another trail? You can explore the follies that once decorated the park, or take a walk in mindfulness and experience your own sensations.
