Skills of the job - Education Team

Make sure your volume is on: "...as peppy and happy as possible..."

Thinking of your feet, that's one thing that you have to do in this job.

You have to think on your feet because you have some hardy people that come here, and come to our groups, and they are not bothered by the rain. They've got all the stuff to wear and you're thinking, “Oh, I've got to take 30 children outside in the pouring rain. And I've got to be as peppy and as happy as possible.” And they're just going to be looking at me going, “Why am I here? And why you doing this to us?”

That is the one thing about education, I have to say. Whatever's happening at home, you literally have to shrug it off as soon as you get through the gate to the park. Because that group that's come to see you, that's their school trip – it’s the only school trip they're going to go on - and you're going to make it the most amazing school trip that you can.

I mean we’re like teachers, we’re educators, but this is a different environment. So the children know this isn't school, this isn't a classroom. This is a different environment. So we have to up the level, we have to be energetic. We have to be peppy. We have to be on it. And like Becky said, we have to think on our feet and go with whatever the elements or anything else throws at us.
