...a rainy foggy day under the redwoods...

My favourite time and place is on a rainy, foggy day under the redwoods. Just sitting there, just early morning when no-one else is around and the rain is dripping down, and the smell of leaves and the bark. And it’s just nice and quiet. Just getting ready, take five minutes to sit and listen to the elements before going the duties.

So my favourite place in the park would probably be sort of deep in the woods off the beaten track, under the tree cover where it’s a little bit darker, a little bit shaded, quite cool to keep the summer sun off you. Where all the moss grows up the trees and the plants. It’s just so nice you can just walk through and see all the birds, the nature, and sometimes you come across deer and all these different types of fungi that you don’t typically see in areas that are more walked.

My favourite part of the park would be down at the lake, early morning, whether it’s raining or sunny, and you’ve got birds singing, you’ve got really quiet tranquillity that runs over the park that you only really ever get before people arrive. It’s lovely!

My favourite time would be a nice sunny morning, there’s a couple of dog walkers around, down on Thicket Lawn. There’s always something going on there, there’s always clouds of butterflies, as you walk there’s crickets jumping away from your feet. There’s always reptiles, we’ve seen deer, foxes, there’s always birds of prey over there. It’s exciting, there’s always something going on…

My favourite time and place in the park is early morning around the lake. You’ve got beautiful reflections off the lake, you’ve got all the birdsong and the birds, and occasionally you can see a kingfisher. And it’s just a very peaceful, tranquil place.

We asked the Ranger team for their favourite times and places to be in the park. They had a wide variety of opinions, from up by the redwood trees on a rainy day, to a sunny morning in Thicket Lawn, to watching the reflections on the surface of the lake.
