My name is Alison and I’ve been at the park for a year and three months.
At the park I’m an apprentice so I’m learning all the time, but my main work involves on the Farm side I work in the Glasshouse watering all the plants and maintaining them. We’ve also got the lily pool which takes ongoing different maintenance all year to prepare it for the lily, and then to clean it out in the winter time.
Within the walled garden we’ve got a real variety of plants. So there’s all different things that go into that, from cutting things back, and pruning , dividing, clearing things out – and there’s a few areas that we’ve redesigned for pollinators, so I’ve been involved in planning and planting that… general maintenance throughout the park, just tidying up.
And then recently I’ve come over to the Country Park side, and I have been maintaining the new flowerbeds that have gone in, which are part of the renovation project. And I’m working on the Community Orchard, so we’ll be doing some pruning there and looking after the trees. Then I’ll be helping with Story Garden and the redesign of the walled garden.
